In 2011, I began teaching English as an online tutor and language travel-buddy at the age of 18. As my interest in languages grew, I eventually switched my major to English literature and began pursuing English language facilitation as a full-time career. I continued as an online tutor and local teacher until graduating in 2014, where I moved into formal teaching by working at a local college. Later, I was offered a position to teach English at an adult IELTS and language learning center, in China, and was given the opportunity for further training in second language teaching and exam preparation classes. After four years teaching abroad in China, I returned to South Africa to complete my post-graduate studies in Education, specializing in English language teaching and Geography. I am currently a part-time teacher, post-grad student and online content writer.
Predominately, I have worked with school students, university graduates and adults in preparing them for specific course and examination requirements. My classes aim to simulate real-life English situations to drive both fluency and comfort in using English in different situations. Also, I focus on appropriate register and graded-language in both teaching and course material selection. Working with a variety of levels and ages has allowed me to identify student needs immediately, and I always aim to help students find a comfortable middle-ground between fun and challenging language activities.
